One of my roles is the Reserve and Cadet Forces Councillor for the Borough and in this role I have recently carried out the following functions:
• Presented a certificate to an 80-year-old Instructor (still active), Ken Hull for 50 years’service as a cadet instructor for the 1921 Squadron of the ATC.
• Attended a Memorial Service to HMS Hood, the ship that was sunk by the Bismark with the loss of all but three of its 1,418 in 1941.
• Attended the Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Allerford Road Gardens, Bellingham.
• Spoken at Council on 29 June to support the Borough’s Adoption of the 1475 Squadron Air Training Cadets.
I enjoy working with the cadet forces because although very few actually join the armed forces as a career, they are taught important life skills and qualifications which enable them to lead responsible adult lives and not get distracted by the behaviour of disaffected young people.
