After a tough campaign to save the five Lewisham libraries that are under the threat of closure, the Mayor deferred the decision to close them for up to two months and has ordered officers to do more work for proposals on alternative provision.

Ken Livingstone came to Ladywell on the eve of the Ladywell Ward by-election and met with residents at Ladywell Station and local shopkeepers. He boosted Carl Handley's campaign, who went on to win the next day. Welcome back on the Council Carl!
Labour 1,231; Greens 1,041; Lib Dems 314; People before profit 233; Tories 153. Services took place all over Lewisham on Remembrance Day. Cllr Morrison as Reserve and Cadet Force Councillor, attended the service in Lewisham High Street and then, with the Mayor received the march past from all uniformed cadets in the borough. This included army, air force, guides, St John's Ambulance and police cadets. Cllr Morrison said that it was the biggest march past ever and made me feel proud of our young people.
Last week from Ladywell/PrendergastFieldsCollege on their third Safe Haven Walk this year, to shops in Brockley, CroftonPark and Honor Oak. Jimmy Mizen’s father, the police, Father Bates, Turnham School and Dalmain School all joined Prendergast students.
Local residents will know only too well, the parking difficulties outside the shops in 'Crofton Park High Street' (Brockley Road). The Rivoli end has 30-minute parking, while the Star Restaurant and Florist end has 20-minute parking. The problem is exacerbated by the overlarge bus stop outside Mr Laurence’s taking up even more parking spaces.
Pauline has previously lobbied the council about this matter when it was raised during the elections. Nothing has happened to improve matters so far. Pauline is now helping local shop keepers with a petition which she will present to the Council in November. |
