As Pauline explains: 'This is a programme I have developed which involves taking groups of Seniors to meet their political representatives including local councillors, members of the Greater London Assembly, their MP and member of the European Parliament, and also visits to the Guardian and the BBC. The aim is to challenge our representatives on how they consult and intend to develop services for older people. The programme also challenges the media on their representation of older people.'
Labour MEP for London Mary Honeyball said that she found the experience very enjoyable despite the intensive questioning from members of Seniors.
Seniors (Lewisham Elders Resource) is based at Stanstead Lodge, 260 Stanstead Road, SE23, tel 020 8291 1164. Mary Honeyball was first elected as MEP in 2000 and is a former local councillor and school governor.
